The OneGorge Advocacy Group is an informal organization of Gorge region public agencies, organizations, and private businesses that collaborate on legislative advocacy on issues and challenges facing Gorge communities. With over 130 participants hailing from each county in the Gorge, OneGorge facilitates actions and events that raise awareness of regional legislative priorities in Salem, Olympia, and Washington D.C. One of the ways they do this is by supporting annual receptions in Olympia and Salem that are hosted by regional legislative representatives and meant to promote the Gorge to their colleagues in the capitols.

The 2nd Annual “Gorge(ous) Night in Olympia” is planned for MARCH 23 (RESCHEDULED DUE TO ICE STORM WARNING) at the Washington state Capitol Building. The reception, hosted by Representatives Gina McCabe and Norm Johnson and Senator Curtis King, will welcome many Washington state legislators and their staff to the Capitol Rotunda to enjoy Gorge regional food, beer, and wines while mixing with Gorge residents to learn about regional legislative priorities.

The 4th Annual “Gorge(ous) Night in Salem” will take place the evening of March 9 at the Mission Mill Dye House in Salem. Hosted by Representatives Mark Johnson and John Huffman and Senator Chuck Thomsen, this reception likewise welcomes state legislators, staff, and Gorge residents to mix and mingle and enjoy the bounty of the Gorge. Catering this year will be provided by the Fresh Start Culinary Arts program, and local Oregon wines and beers will also be featured.

“These events are a fantastic way for Gorge public agency staff and board members, local organizations, and private business owners to build new relationships with policy makers and legislative staff in our state capitols. The evening is always fun and relaxed and our hosts do a great job raising awareness of Gorge priorities to their colleagues,” says Genevieve Scholl, Port of Hood River Special Projects Manager. OneGorge invites area businesses to participate and provides promotional opportunities at each event. Email info@onegorge.org to learn more.
