Our Story, Then & Now

HONORING TRADITION

The Gorge’s rolling geography, rich soils, dynamic weather and 10,000+ years of
human history beautifully co-mingle to create one of the greatest places on
earth.

Here, we respect the tribes and nations that are an integral part of the
history, culture, governance, resources and economy of our regional
community.

Here, we admire the tribal shers who practice traditional wild salmon
harvests as they have for generations.

Here, we laud the four Columbia River Treaty tribes, including Confederated
Tribes of Warm Springs, Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation,
Nez Perce Tribe, and the Tribes and Bands of the Yakama Nation.

LOOKING FORWARD

The Gorge boasts an enviable location, natural splendor, active lifestyle,
strong communities and an incredibly diverse and growing economy.

Here, we promote the development of new business, industry and
community that continues to bring job growth and economic opportunity
along with a highly desirable inux of both residents and visitors.

Here, we celebrate the mindset of peoples, such as the enterprising
recreationists who, with their surf-sail-wind board inventions spawned an
emerging and popular River sport.

Here, we anticipate the continued expansion of enterprise, including
world-changing technological advances, food and beverage production,
renewable energy solutions, and new startup companies.
